Partnering with Faculty in Excellence

The Coulter Faculty Commons (CFC) takes pride in the partnership we have with the faculty at Western Carolina University.

The CFC is located in the Hunter Library, on WCU’s main campus. We are here for full and part-time faculty/instructors, graduate assistants and staff in all areas of teaching & learning. The CFC partners with instructors to improve teaching and learning through the promotion of an established blend of pedagogy, technology, and research. We support success in the classroom and continuing professional development with workshops, resources and consultations. You are part of an academic community where there are continuous open discussions and support for teaching and learning activities. Research Support

The Coulter Faculty Commons, in collaboration with the Office of Research Administration, recognizes that the faculty of Western Carolina University engage in multiple forms of scholarship. The CFC research division can assist faculty, staff, and graduate teaching assistants with research design and research methods for publications, grant proposals, dissertations, theses, and other projects. This support is provided through consultations, and scholarship tools and resources.

We partner with instructors in all aspects of teaching. Workshop and consultation topics include course design for online, hybrid/blended, and face-to-face instructional environments, student engagement, course design, assessment strategies, syllabus and schedule construction, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning projects, Accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)/inclusive pedagogy. Consultations may also cover work-life balance and other issues related to faculty support.
